The Story of the Autograph

Ken Anderson is a former MVP, All-Pro, and Pro Bowl quarterback in the National Football League. He played from 1971 to 1986 and spent his entire career with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Anderson was born and raised in Batavia, Illinois where he grew up with basketball great Dan Issel. He went on to college at Augustana College in Illinois. The Bengals drafted him in the third round of the 1971 NFL Draft. He started just four games that first season but would be their starter for years to come starting in the 1972 season.

He would go on to become an all-time great player. In 1981 he won the MVP, Offensive Player of the Year and Comeback Player of the Year after a few bad years before that. He helped the Bengals to a 12-4 record, winning the infamous Freezer Bowl against the Chargers and losing in the Super Bowl to the San Francisco 49ers. But he also was a one-time First and Second team All-Pro, four-time Pro Bowler, two-time passing yardage leader, four-time passer rating leader. And then on top of all that he was the NFL Man of the Year in 1975.

Later on he was a QB coach and offensive coordinator with the Bengals, Jaguars and Steelers (who won the Super Bowl with him as a QB Coach.

I remember these old cards from being a kid. I think this is the first football set I remember seeing. I don’t know if this was one of my original cards I had as a kid but that’s definitely what this card brings me back to. I think this one came out pretty good but I think a better card would show his signature off better.

Thanks Mr. Anderson! I’m giving this return a 6.
