The Story of the Autograph

Junior Kennedy is a former second baseman in the major leagues. He played for the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs in a seven year career that spanned from 1974 to 1983.

Kennedy was born in Oklahoma but grew up in California. He was drafted out of high school with the tenth overall pick of the 1968 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. He played pretty well during his several years in the minors and was the California League MVP in 1972. But he never made it up to the Orioles. Before he could he was traded to the Reds in the offseason before the 1974 season with William Wood and Merv Rettenmund for Wallace Williams and Ross Grimsley. He made his MLB Debut for the Reds on August 9, 1974 but would be be back to the majors again until 1976.

Once he made it back to the Reds, his versatility and dependability made him a great utility man. He mostly played at second base but also played some at shortstop and third base. But he was a light hitting middle infielder and only would hit four homers in his career. Some how during the 1977 season he was traded to the Giants and traded back in an unknown transaction.

He moved on the the Cubs for the last two years of his career.

The Score on Junior Kennedy – 6.5

Junior has a pretty small signature but it’s definitely not the smallest I’ve ever seen. I’ve thought that 1983 Topps card is kind of funny because it almost looks like he’s a pitcher. It just seems like a follow through shot but he has no glove on. Then again he doesn’t have a batting helmet on either so I’m not sure what he is doing.

Thanks Mr. Kennedy! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
