The Story of the Autograph

Johnny Giavotella is a former second baseman in the major leagues. He played from 2011 to 2017 with the Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, and Baltimore Orioles.

Giavotella was born and raised in Louisiana. He went to high school in New Orleans and then went on to attend the University of New Orleans. He was drafted by the Royals in the second round of the 2008 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut with them three years later on August 6, 2011. He never played more than 46 games while in Kansas City and that was in his first two years with the club.

The Royals traded him to the Angels before the 2015 season. That year Johnny made it into a career high 129 games. He hit .272 with four home runs and 49 RBI. The next year he appeared in 99 games with a .260 average, six homers and 31 RBI. But he wouldn’t be back with the Angels the next year.

He picked up with the Orioles on a minor league contract and he replaced JJ Hardy when he was injured. Then he was designated for assignment in August of 2017. He tried to make it with the Marlins the next season and with the White Sox but never appeared in another major league game and announced his retirement on August 11, 2018.

The Score on Johnny Giavotella – 6.5

Johnny has a pretty long name so there’s a lot there that can fill up a baseball card with ink. Usually the Heritage cards come out a little better than that. It looks like the marker wasn’t really as strong as it could have been. I do love the post on the 2017 Topps card.

Thanks Mr. Giavotella! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
