The Story of the Autograph

Jim Shellenback is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1966 to 1977 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Senators/Texas Rangers, and Minnesota Twins.

Shellenback was born and raised in Riverside, California. He was originally signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1962. But at the end of the 1962 season he was drafted by the Pirates in the 1962 first-year draft. He would make his major league debut on September 15, 1966. He only played in a few games in Pittsburgh until he was traded to the Senators in the middle of the 1969 season.

While in Washington he was worked as both a starter and a reliever. In the best of his DC seasaon, 1970, he went 6-7 with a 3.68 ERA in 39 games with 14 starts. When the team moved to Texas he pretty much worked as a reliever for the rest of his career. After missing a few seasons with a major league club in 1975 and 1976 he made it into a few games with the Twins.

The Score on Jim Shellenback – 6.5

This is a pretty good return from Jim. He sure has a lot of name to try to fit across a card like he does. You would think it would fit easier if he stacked it a little bit. Now that I think about it, his first name is so short and his last name is so long. The 1970 Topps card has to be my favorite of these because you can see that signature really well.

Thanks Mr. Shellenback! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
