The Story of the Autograph

Jim Harbaugh is a former quarterback and head coach in the NFL and currently the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines. He played in the league from 1987 to 2001 with the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Raves, San Diego Chargers, and Carolina Panthers.

Harbaugh was born in Toledo, Ohio. His family moved around a lot as he grew up but he spent his high school years in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Palo Alto, California. He went to Michigan to play for the Wolverines and was a starter there for three seasons. He finished with a trip to the Rose Bowl and a third place finish in the Heisman voting. The Bears then drafted him in the first round of the 1987 NFL Draft.

His first three years were spent backing up Jim McMahon. In 1990 he started and played in 14 games and went 10-4. He followed that up with an 11-5 record in 1991. He and the Bears dropped off after that and he moved on to Indianapolis. He would help the Colts to the playoffs and in 1995 he would reach his one and only Pro Bowl and receive MVP votes.

He started coached in Oakland as a quarterbacks coach in 2002-2003. He moved into head coaching positions in college with San Diego and later with Stanford from 2004-2010. The San Francisco 49ers gave him his first shot in the NFL and while he help them to an NFC Championship game, he ultimately lost the Ravens and his older brother John.

More recently, since 2015, he’s been working as the head coach at Michigan. In the last two years he coached the team the 12-2 and 13-1 records respectively and reach the CFP, but lost in the Orange and Fiesta Bowls. He has a 1-6 record with Michigan in Bowls games.

I was kind of surprised to get these back from Jim. I always feel like sending to college coaches can be a bit of a crap shoot. Sometimes you get letters back that they don’t sign because of regulations and things and others times it doesn’t seem to be an issue. I think maybe the NIL rules in more recent years is changing things. These look great from Jim though. I think I need to try to find one of him in a Colts uniform though.

Thanks Mr. Harbaugh! I’m giving this return a 7.
