The Story of the Autograph

Jeff Robinson (Jeff D. Robinson) is a former right-handed relief pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1984 through 1992. During that time he played for the Giants, Pirates, Yankees, Angels, and Cubs.

Robinson was originally selected by the Tigers in the 1982 Draft but never signed. He was drafted by the Giants a year later in the second round (as opposed to the 14th the year prior) and chose to sign with them. When he broke into the league in 1984 he first was a starter and ended up starting 33 games that first year. After tat he was primarily used as a reliever everywhere he went except for 1989.

In 1987 he was traded to the Pirates (with another player) for Rick Reuschel. Later that year he struck out Leon Durham, Andre Dawson and Rafael Palmeiro on nine total pitches to become the 13th player to have a perfect inning. He would later be traded to New York and then signed with the Angels and Cubs as a free agent.

Robinson’s best year was probably 1988 when he went 11-5 with a 3.03 ERA in 75 games. 35 of those games he finished and he picked up nine saves.

Jeff has a small and simple signature. It actually reminds me of another former Pirate, Bob Kipper. But that could be because they look a little bit alike too. I’m also kind of excited to get that 1989 Topps Big card back. While I don’t want to figure out how to store it as it doesn’t fit anywhere, I certainly like it out of my pile for sorting.

Thanks Mr. Robinson! I’m giving this return a 5.
