The Story of the Autograph

Jeff Reardon is a former relief pitcher. He played from 1979 through 1994 with the Mets, Expos, Twins, Red Sox, Braves, Reds and Yankees. He was a closer and once owned the career record for saves. He’s currently ninth on the all-time saves list.

Jeff was born and raised in Massachusetts. While the Expos drafted him in the 23rd round in 1973, he didn’t sign and instead attended UMass-Amherst. After leaving school he went undrafted and the Mets signed him in 1977. He quickly moved through their farm system and made his debut in the majors on August 25, 1979.

He was traded to the Expos where he started to become a more prominent player. He was voted to the All-Star team twice there and led the majors in saves in 1985 to earn the Rolaids Relief Man of the Year award. He was traded again to the Twins prior to the 1987 season and helped them win the World Series against the Cardinals. The next year he made his third All-Star team and became the first pitcher to have 40 saves in each league.

After his career he went through some hard times when his son died from a drug overdose and he also went through issues with prescription medications. That resulted a run-in with the Law and stays in a psychiatric facility.

The Score on Jeff Reardon – 6.0

Jeff has always had a bit of an old man signature. It’s always been a little squiggly and herky-jerky. It came out really well on some of these cards but some are just a little bit busy. Again I didn’t pay enough attention to some other cards I already had him sign so I got some dupes out of this.

Thanks Mr. Reardon! I’m giving these a 6.
