The Story of the Autograph

James Paxton is a left-handed starting pitcher in the majors. Until this offseason he had spent his entire career with the Seattle Mariners, but he’s since been traded to the New York Yankees.

Paxton was born and raised in British Columbia, Canada. After being successful during his high school years he moved on to the University of Kentucky. He was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 2009 Draft but he didn’t sign. However, he was ruled ineligible at Kentucky because of the contract he signed with Scott  Boras. He moved on to independent league baseball and then the Mariners drafted him in 2010 in the fourth round of the draft. After a couple years in the minors he made his first major league appearance on September 7, 2013.

Until 2017 he hadn’t really seen much significant time in the majors. Then he put a 12-5 record in 24 starts with a 2.98 ERA. Last year he started 28 games and went 11-6 with a 3.76 ERA and 208 strikeouts. The high point last season was on May 8, 2018 when he pitched a no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays. He became the second Canadian to throw a no-hitter and the first Canadian major leaguer to throw one in Canada.

He’s also famous for having a run-in with a bald eagle last year. During a game against the Twins an eagle was part of a pre-game ceremony and landed on him. He was surprisingly calm and everything turned out OK.

I saw some guys getting back returns for him recently and thought to myself, “man, I wish I sent something to Paxton.” Turns out I did. I’m glad I did to. With the no hitter this year and all that I think it’s great to have 2018 cards of his signed. He has a pretty good autograph and it came out really great on these cards.

Thanks Mr. Paxton! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
