The Story of the Autograph

Greg Olson played major league baseball for five season with the Twins in 1989 and then the Braves from 1990 through 1993. He had some really good years until severe injury and then the promise of a younger player forced his release.

Greg was originally Drafted by the Mets in the seventh round of the 1982 MLB draft. He never played with the Mets (because Gary Carter) and became a free agent in 1988 and signed with the Twins. He only played three games in 1989 and had 1 hit in two plate appearances.  After the 1989 season he was a free agent again and signed with the Braves.

1990 was a great year for Greg. He played 100 games and was named to the All-Star team. He finished the year with some career high totals in average (.262) and homers (7). In 1991 he would help the Braves to the World Series when they played Pittsburgh in the NLCS and then Minnesota in the World Series. Olson was great against Pittsburgh with a .333 average, 1 homer, 4 RB and a stolen base after played in all 7 games.

In 1992 he was have a another good year when he had a collision with Ken Caminiti at the plate and broke his right leg. He would play one more year for Atlanta but was released to make room for Javy Lopez. He would sign with the Mets but be released before the end of spring training and he retired.

Greg has a solid signature. It’s really a good size on these cards. The .’91 Topps is the best example of it while the other cards are a little dark. Greg has been a pretty reliable signer for me over the years as I’ve sent to him a couple times and always gotten a good quality signature back.

Thanks Mr. Olson! I’m giving this return a 6.
