The Story of the Autograph

Gary Anderson is a former running back in the NFL. He played from 1985 to 1993 with the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Detroit Lions.

Anderson was born and raised in Columbia, Missouri. He played his college football at Arkansas and was drafted by the Chargers in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft. But the two sides couldn’t agree on a contract and Anderson went and played for the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL. He had three good seasons in the USFL, especially his last two. In 1984 he broke 1,000 yards and led the league with 19 touchdowns. Then in 1985 he topped his yardage numbers with over 1,200 yards and 16 touchdowns. He ended up as the fourth leading rusher in USFL history.

He moved on to the Chargers when the league folded and he worked as both a running back and kick returner. He would end up sitting out the 1989 season in a contract dispute. When he came back in 1990 it was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He worked mostly as a reserve running back during his time there before closing out his NFL career with the Lions at the end of 1993.

After having already retired, he went to play for the Memphis Mad Dogs in the Canadian Football League. He only played the one season in the CFL after the team folded.

The Score on Gary Anderson – 7.5

Gary has a really action-packed signature. I think it looks really great on the 1990 Pro Set and 1991 Fleer Ultra cards especially. The blue marker really sticks out well though and most people sign in blue, but I’m on the fence as to whether it might look cooler for it to be black on these.

Thanks Mr. Anderson! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
