The Story of the Autograph

Eric Martin is a former wide receiver in the NFL. He played 10 seasons for the New Orleans Saints and the Kansas City Chiefs from 1985 through 1994.

Martin is a Texan who was born and raised in Van Vleck, Texas. He went on to Louisiana State University and would set a record at the time for the most career yards in the SEC by a receiver with 2,625. He played in some huge games and always seemed to show up at the right time. But Martin was still not drafted until the seventh round of the 1985 NFL Draft when the New Orleans Saints chose him as the 27th wide receiver taken.

He played nine of his ten seasons for the Saints and helped them make their first playoff appearance in franchise history in 1987. He made the Pro Bowl once in 1988 and is a member of the Saints Hall of Fame. His best season is probably 1989. He caught less balls than the year prior but had more yards. That year he caught 68 passes for 1,090 yards (a career high) and took eight of them to the house (another career high). That was a sixteen yard average per catch (only the third highest of his career.

He spent the final year of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs.

I’ve sent to Eric three times with this being the first time I’d had any luck. There’s always someone you see people get back and you don’t and you wonder why. Eric is one of those guys for me (another being Anthony Carter, another wide receiver. I normally like a marker to go with the cards and obviously black would go better with Saints uniforms. But if he used black it would have not stood out like these do.

Thanks Mr. Martin! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
