The Story of the Autograph

Eric Fox is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1992 to 1994 with the Oakland Athletics and then in 1995 with the Texas Rangers.

Fox is a native of California. He went to college at Cal State Fresno (or Fresno State as it’s known now) and was drafted three times before signing. He was first drafted by the Blue Jays in the 22nd round of the 1984 MLB Draft, then later by the Philies in the thirteenth round of the 1985 MLB Draft. He finally signed after being drafted by the Mariners in the first round of the 1986 MLB Draft with the fifth overall pick.

He played in the minors for several years before making it to the majors and he wouldn’t make it to the bigs with the Mariners. He spent the first three years as a pro with the Mariners before being released in 1989. The A’s signed him and he made his major league debut three years later on July 7, 1992.

He was a base stealer in the minors, but never lived up to that capability in the majors, stealing on five bases in his career. He bounced between the majors and minors throughout his career. His best year was the first he played in, 1992, when he got into 51 games and hit .238 with three homers, 13 RBI, three steals, five doubles and two triples.

He played his final major league game with the Rangers on July 5, 1995. But he continued in the minors after that. After playing he went into coaching and was with the Marlins, Diamondbacks and Nationals in the minor leagues.

The Score on Eric Fox – 6.5

Eric has a bit of a squiggly signature. Certainly that “E” seems a bit that way. It doesn’t look like he does it all the time, but the top of his “F” on the 1992 Donruss card has a bit of flair to it. There’s definitely more definition put into his last name than his first on all these.

Thanks Mr. Fox! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
