The Story of the Autograph

Emerson Boozer is a former running back in the National Football League. He played from 1966 to 1975 and spent his entire career with the New York Jets.

Boozer is a native of Augusta, Georgia. While he was a great talent in high school he didn’t get a the scholarship offers you would think. He went to Maryland State College where he was a two-time All-American from 1962 to 1965. He wasn’t really looked at much by the NFL either, but the Jets drafted him in the sixth round of the 1966 AFL draft and he signed with them. The Steelers had drafted him in the seventh round in the NFL Draft that same year.

Coach Weeb Ewbank paired him with Matt Snell in the backfield and he would eventually be the starter. He was part of the Jets AFL Championship winning team in 1968 and then the same team that went on to improbably win Super Bowl III. His best rushing season was probably 1973 when he had 831 yards rushing and three touchdowns with 130 yards receiving and another three touchdowns added to that. He had a career high of 10 rushing touchdowns in 1967.

Boozer was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010 and became part of the Jets Ring of Honor in 2015.

Emerson did a great job on these cards. It looks like when he was signing the “E” the marker wasn’t starting out great. But it ended up being really strong for the rest of his signature. I like was he does with the little loop on his “z” and then how he makes it hold his number.

Thanks Mr. Boozer! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.
