The Story of the Autograph

Dusty Baker is a former outfielder and manager in the majors. During his playing days (1968-1986) he played for the Braves, Dodgers, Giants, and Athletics. Later on he managed the Giants, Cubs, Reds and Nationals.

Baker was drafted in 1967 out of high school in California. He was good enough to debut as a September call-up in 1968 and play a few games. He had a great career with some really interesting moments: he was on deck when Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s record, he may have performed the first ever high five with Glenn Burke, oh yeah, and he’s a All-star, World Series champ, NLCS MVP, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award winner.

He’s wasn’t too shabby as a manager either. He took the Giants as far as the World Series in 2002 but lost to the Angels in seven games. In addition to that he was NL Manager of the Year three times. He’s definitely an old school guy as a manager. I think what I always think about with him though is the toothpick in his mouth while he was managing.

It’s great to have social media and follow other people who do TTMs. You can see other people start to get successes for someone and then you kind of have an idea if you might get one back. The funny part for Dusty was that it seemed like he hadn’t signed in a while. I sent these when he was with the Nats.

Thanks Mr. Baker! I’m giving these a 6.
