The Story of the Autograph

Dustin Ackley is a second baseman/outfielder currently in the minor leagues within the Angels organization. He played in the majors with the Mariners from 2011 to 2015 and was traded to the Yankees where he spent his time until 2016. Since that time he’s been toiling in the minor.

Ackley was born and raised in North Carolina where he played for two different high schools and won state titles in 2003 and 2004. He then attended UNC and played for three years. He was one of their best hitters and helped them to the College World Series final in 2007 and then appearances in the competition in 2008 and 2009. He won several awards as a junior as well as All-American honors.

The Mariners made Ackley the second overall selection of the 2009 MLB Draft. He played all over the field throughout his time in college and the minors but the Mariners were focusing on him playing second base. They brought him up to make his debut on Jun 17, 2011. He played that position until the Mariners signed Robinson Cano and then Ackley moved to the outfield in 2014. In July of 2015 the Mariners traded Ackley to the Yankees.

He immediately went on the DL and then was on the DL some more the next year and the Yankees released him after the season. Last year Ackley signed a minor league contract with the Angels. He opted for free agency at the end of 2017 but ultimately signed another minor league deal with the Angels at the beginning of this year.

Dustin has a pretty cool autograph. He’s always going to personalize your cards and add his number to it. I really like the way his “D” and “A” stick out so well in his signature. The only bad side to this return, and why I didn’t give these a little higher score was that the 2011 insert card was rubbed off a little bit. I would like the signature to fill up the card a little more but I think the major thing is that the one card didn’t come out as well.

Thanks Mr. Ackley! I’m giving these a 5.5.
