The Story of the Autograph

Donnell Woolford is a former cornerback in the National Football League. He played from 1989 to 1999 with the Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Carolina Panthers.

Woolford was born in Baltimore, Maryland but great up in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He played basketball and track in addition to football in high school. He then went on to attend Clemson University and play football for the Tigers. He was recruited as a running back, but he moved to a different position because they had a lot of running backs on the roster. He went on to be a two-time All-American and a finalist for the Jim Thorpe award. He also returned punts.

The Bears took him in the first round of the 1989 NFL Draft with the 11th overall pick. He started every game he could during his eight years with the Bears. His best season was 1992 when he had a career high seven interceptions. But it was the following year, 1994, that he made his one and only Pro Bowl. He had held the franchise record for interceptions with 32, but that’s since been broken. He moved on to the Steelers in a trade, but suffered what would end up being a career ending knee injury.

After his playing days he help coach high school in his hometown. These days he is a businessman and fund raiser for different causes.

These are some really dark cards but Donnell did the best job he could with them. The 1990 Pro Set cards came out the best because they give him the best shot at showing off that signature. I think the balck on the dark Chicago uniforms is just hard to get around though.

Thanks Mr. Woolford! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.
