The Story of the Autograph

Dave Szott is a former guard in the NFL. He played from 1990 to 2003 with the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Commanders, and New York Jets.

Szott is a native of New Jersey, born in Passaic and raised in Clifton. In high school he was a wrestler in addition to playing football, even placing fourth in the country in the 1986 USA Wrestling Junior Freestyle Tournament. He went on to play for Penn State University. From there he was drafted by the Chiefs in the seventh round of the 1990 NFL Draft.

Szott started eleven games that first season and became a full-time starter the year after. He played a total of eleven seasons in Kansas City, earning a First-Team All-Pro in 1997. From there he moved on to Washington for a season and then to the New York for two seasons. After his time with the Jest he stayed on as a coach and worked in player development.

He does a lot of fundraising for cerebral palsy because he has a son who suffers from it. He was an NFL Man of the Year in 1996 and was a United Way Hometown Hero for his work in 2003.

The Score on Dave Szott – 7.0

Dave has one of those intitial, line, initial, line types of signatures. There actually might be more that he puts in to the number or the bible verse he lists than his actual signature. He also changes up the bible verses he mentions. I always wonder if this is just something that is just what he feels like at the time or if there are certain things he does to certain cards or anything like that.

Thanks Mr. Szott! I’m giving this return a 7.
