The Story of the Autograph

Dave Revering is a former first baseman in the major leagues. He played for the Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and Seattle Mariners from 1978 through 1982.

Revering was born and raised in California. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds out of high school in 1971. He spent virtually all of his minor league career with the Reds until they traded him in 1978 to the Oakland Athletics. He immediately took over the first base position and debuted on April 8, 1978.

Three years late the Athletics traded him to New York. In New York he backed up Bob Watson at first base and didn’t see much action during the strike-shortened 1981 season. Revering did get to the postseason with the Yankees, but only got two at-bats. But those two at-bats were against his former A’s club in the ALCS.

His career ended with a bit of a turbulent 1982 season. That year the Yankees dealt him to the Blue Jays, who would release him. Shortly after he signed with the Mariners and they released him at the end of the season. He tried to make the majors in 1983 with the Tigers but didn’t make the club and decided to retire.

The Score on Dave Revering – 6.0

Dave appears to sign all of his cards in landscape style despite them being in portrait style. For these cards, that worked best on the 1981 Fleer card because it has a natural space for a signature. He also appears to be a guy who puts more work into one of his names than the other. “Revering” certainly gets a whispy sort of treatment.

Thanks Mr. Revering! I’m giving this return a 6.
