The Story of the Autograph

Dan Schatzeder had a 15 season long career in the major leagues. Mostly a reliever, he played for the Expos (twice), Tigers, Giants, Phillies, Twins (twice), Indians, Astros, Mets, and Royals.

Schatzeder is from Illinois and went to the University of Denver. It was from there that the Expos drafted him in 1976 in the third round of the MLB Draft. He debuted with the Expos a year later on September 4, 1977. But he only spend a little bit of time in Montreal (a precursor to the rest of his career) as he was traded to the Tigers after the 1979 season. He mostly moved to other teams via free agency, but he was involved in four others trades including Tom Foley and Lary Sorensen (who I also have TTM autographs of).

His luckiest move might have come in 1987 when the Phillies traded him to the Twins. He would get a ring that year with the Twins by beating the Cardinals in the 1987 World Series. His best statistical year in his few years as mostly a starter was 1979 in Montreal. That year he went 10-5 with a 2.83 ERA in 21 starts and 32 games total. He actual played well in his second stint in Montreal as well.

After retiring he worked as a PE teacher in Aurora, Illinois and only retired a few years ago.

The Score on Dan Schatzeder – 6.5

Dan has a pretty middle of the road signature. It doesn’t stand out, but you could tell it was his if you knew it well enough. But it really did come out great on these cards. Of course I like it best on the Expos cards because he used a nice blue marker that goes a bit better with that uniform.

Thanks Mr. Schatzeder! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
