The Story of the Autograph

CJ Nitkowski is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues as well as the Japanese and Korean baseball leagues. His complete career lasted from 1995 to 2011. During that time he played for the Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers (twice), Houston Astros, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Washington Nationals, Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, SK Wyverns, Doosan Bears, and Nexen Heroes.

Nitkowski is native of New York and went to Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey. He went on to attend Florida Atlantic University and then transferred to St. John’s. The Reds drafted him with the ninth overall pick in the first round of the 1994 MLB Draft and he made his major league debut for them a year later on June 3, 1995. Before he had been in the bigs for two months he was traded to the Tigers in a deal that sent David Wells to the Reds.

He spent the next several years playing no longer than two years with any team. He started 44 of the 336 games he played and went 18-32 with a 5.37 ERA. In 2006 he moved on to playing in Japan and South Korea with several more team. He tried to make it once again in the Mets organization in 2012 before ending his career.

These days you can find him on broadcast booth for the Rangers.

The Score on CJ Nitkowski – 7.5

CJ has a really great signature. There’s some really great stuff with his “tk”combination there in his last name. There’s a lot of action in the signature to me and I usually don’t think of that with people who have more loopy signature like this. I usually think of that with a more jagged or angle-based signature.

Thanks Mr. Nitkowski! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
