The Story of the Autograph

Chris Volstad is a former pitcher in the major leagues. He worked as both a starter and a reliever from 2008 through 2018 with the Florida Marlins, Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago White Sox. He also pitched in the KBO with the Doosan Bears.

Volstad was born and raised in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The Marlins made him a first round draft pick in 2005 by picking him 16th overall. After pitching well in the minors he made his major league debut on July 6, 2008. He worked mostly as a starter during his four season with there. The Marlins always struggled but he put up a 12-9 record and a 4.58 ERA in 2010, most definitely his best year in the majors.

The Marlins traded him to the Cubs for Carlos Zambrano in 2012. He moved around a lot from there and didn’t spend more than two years anyplace until he got to the White Sox in 2017. His time after 2012 included two stints where he didn’t make a major league appearance in a season and one of those was when he went to the Doosan Bears in Korea. However, they released him mid season.

He tried to make a team as recently as this year when the Reds signed him in February of 2020 but he was released prior to the season.

Chris has been someone I’ve been targeting lately because I’ve been trying to expand my collection with all the “expansion” teams (Marlins, Rockies, etc.). But he’s a guy that I don’t have a lot of doubles for so unfortunately it took me a while to find something to send. These came out really great though.

Thanks Mr. Volstad! I’m giving this return an 8.
