The Story of the Autograph

Chris Chambliss played in the major leagues as a first baseman from 1971 through 1988. During that time he played for the Indians, Yankees (twice), and Braves. He’s an All-Star, Gold Glover, Rookie of the Year and multiple-time World Series champion.

Chambliss was born in Ohio but grew up all over the place because his Dad was in the Navy. He ended up going to high school in Oceanside California. HE played college baseball for MiraCosta College and was drafted twice by the Reds, but never signed with them. Instead he went on to play for UCLA. The Indians then selected Chambliss with the first overall pick in the 1970 MLB Draft. He played that 1970 season in the minors and was up to the majors in 1971. He won the AL Rookie of the Year that year.

The Indians traded Chambliss to the Yankees in the early part of the 1974 season. In 1976 he was an All-Star for the first and only time in his career. Later that year he was one of the best players in the 1976 ALCS against the Royals. He continued his great hitting in the 1976 World Series. He was part of Yankee championships in 1977 and 1978 (and later a coach for championships in 1996 and 1998-2000 also with the Yankees).

He was traded to Toronto in 1979 but never played for the Blue Jays. They traded him to the Braves before the 1980 season started. He was a Brave until 1986 and then came back to the Yankees for one at-bat in 1988 and struck out.

The Score on Chris Chambliss – 6.0

Chris always has a really consistent signature. That might be because in the end it’s pretty simple. But that’s probably also what helps it come out really well on just about any card he puts it on. He always seems to use a pretty good marker and he pretty much fills up the card pretty well.

Thanks Mr. Chambliss! I’m giving these a 6.
