The Story of the Autograph

Cherokee Parks is a former center in the NBA. The Duke grad and NCAA Champion played from 1995 to 2003 with the Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Vancouver Grizzlies, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers (twice), San Antonio Spurs, and Golden State Warriors.

Parks was born and raised in Huntington Beach, California. He went to Duke University during some of the many hieghts of the program. That included being part of the 1992 National Championship run during his freshman year. In 1995, the Mavericks selected him with the 12th overall pick in the NBA Draft.

He moved around a lot during his career, never spending more than two seasons with any team he played for. It shouldn’t surprise then that he was traded three times in his career. First for draft picks, then later for the likes of Isaac Austin (he was traded with others in that deal), and Tyrone Nesby (again, others were in that deal with him too).

He only ever started more than half of his teams games in two seasons, 1997-98 and 1998-99 with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Vancouver Grizzlies respectively. He averaged 4.4 points per game for his career with a career high of 7.1 with Minnesota in 1997-98.

In 2011 he came out of retirement to play with the French team U.S. Aubenas.

The Score on Cherokee Parks – 5.5

Cherokee unfortunately is robbed a bit by these very busy and dark cards. Vancouver had those black uniforms back then (even though they were way better than the hideous first ones they had). But I do like that I have his signature on cards for the teams he played the most for.

Thanks Mr. Parks! I’m giving this return a 5.5 overall.
