The Story of the Autograph

Carlos Carson is a former wide receiver in the NFL. He played from 1980 to 1989 with the Kansas City Chiefs and then also in Philadelphia in 1989.

Carson is a native of Florida. He wasn’t highly recruited coming out of high school but coaches from LSU noticed him while recruiting another player. Because he hadn’t received many offers, when LSU contacted him to ask him to visit, he asked if they were offering a scholarship. When they said yes he accepted on the spot. In his first game for the Tigers he caught five touchdown passes.

After college he was drafted by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 1980 NFL Draft. After a few seasons under his belt he broke out in 1983, probably his best year in the league. That year he had 80 receptions for 1351 yards and seven touchdowns. That would become his first of two Pro Bowl appearances and first of three career thousand-yard seasons. It would also be the second most yards in the league that season.

He followed 1984 up with another 1,000-yard season with 57 catches and 1078 yards with four touchdowns. And in 1987 he had his third, with 1044 yards on 55 catches, taking another seven of those to the house. In his final season of 1989 he split it between Kansas City and Philadelphia.

I thought I had more cards to send to Carlos, but when I actually looked at what I had this was all I could find. The base card came out pretty well, but you can kind of see the marker running out a little bit in places. But the insert card with the glossy face really didn’t come out as well. I definitely will need to look for more of his cards.

Thanks Mr. Carson! I’m giving this return a 5.
