The Story of the Autograph

Broderick Perkins is a former first baseman and outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1978 to 1984 with the San Diego Padres and the Cleveland Indians.

Perkins is a native of California and went to both Diablo Valley College and St. Mary’s College. The Padres drafted him out of St. Mary’s in the 15th round of the 1976 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut two years later on July 7, 1978.

He usually played less than half a season with the exception being 1982 when he appeared in 125 games for the Padres. In 382 plate appearances he hit .271 with two homers and 34 RBI. After the 1982 season he was traded to the Indians with Juan Eichelberger to the Cleveland Indians for Ed Whitson.

In Cleveland he went back to playing less than half a season and the Indians released him after the 1984 season. He never appeared in the major again after that.

The Score on Broderick Perkins – 6.5

Broderick has a pretty standard signature at first glance. However, it looks like he puts his middle initial “P” in there as well. I don’t think I can really remember anyone else signing with their middle initial. That certainly makes it a bit different even if it doesn’t stick out right away.

Thanks Mr. Perkins! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
