The Story of the Autograph

Bill Mueller is a former third baseman in the major leagues. He played from 1996 to 2006 and during those eleven seasons he played for the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Mueller was born and raised in Missouri. He went on to attend Southwest Missouri State and was a four-year starter on the baseball team. He earned MVC Player of the Year honors in 1993 and in 2020 was named to their Hall of Fame. The Giants drafted him in the fifteenth round of the 1993 MLB Draft. After a few years in the minors he made his major league debut for them on April 18, 1996.

He earned the majority of the playing time at third in his second year and played most game there between 1997 an 1999. He would hit over .290 in most of those years and ended up with a .291 average for his career. After the 2000 season he was traded to Chicago for Tim Worrell, but he would come back to San Francisco at the end of the 2002 season when he was traded back there.

He moved on to the Red Sox before the 2003 season and would have three great years with them with 2003 being maybe his best season in the majors with a 5.6 WAR. That year he led the AL with a .326 average and added a career high 19 homers and 85 RBI, earning him some MVP votes and win a Silver Slugger. While that season didn’t end well with a playoff loss to the Yankees, the next year would be better. Boston broke the curse and won the 2004 World Series.

After retirement he did a little coaching and front office work with the Dodgers, Cubs, Cardinals and most recently the Washington Nationals.

The Score on Bill Mueller – 8.0

Bill has a really great signature. It might be weird to describe it this way, but it looks fun. I love that “Sporting News” card. I think I probably think of him as a Giant, but I think he had his best individual and team accomplishments in Boston. So it’s nice to get something from him with both of those uniforms on.

Thanks Mr. Mueller! I’m giving this return an 8 overall.
