The Story of the Autograph

Bill Mazeroski is a Hall of Fame second baseman who played in the major leagues from 1956 to 1972. He spent his entire career in Pittsburgh with the Pirates.

Mazeroski was born in West Virginia and grew up in Ohio. While in high school he played basketball as well as baseball. He had offers from colleges but chose to go right into professional baseball and chose to play with the Pirates because they would accelerate where he would be in the minors. He was originally a shortstop but was soon moved to second base. He made his major league debut on July 7, 1956.

Mazeroski would go on to become a ten-time All-Star, eight-time Gold Glove winner, two-time World Series Champion and have his number retired by the Pirates. His best years were probably 1958 and 1963 when he put up a 4.9 and 4.7 WAR respectively. However, what he’s probably best known for is Game 7 World Series-winning homer in the 1960 World Series. But he was great in that World Series, hitting two homers and having five RBI and a .320 average. He was also part of the 1971 team but in a limited capacity.

Normally I would want a card from the player’s era for him to sign, but really I don’t have a lot of cards from the days that Bill played. That said, I feel like for him, this is the perfect card for him to sign given that it’s the moment that everyone would know him form. The signature came out great and there’s a great place to signed this one. I’ll just have to try to find a card of his at a card show maybe.

Thanks Mr. Mazeroski! I’m giving this return a 9.
