The Story of the Autograph
B.J. Surhoff is a former major leaguer who started out as a catcher but then played third base and in the outfield, but at some point he did play every position except pitcher. He had a long career and played from 1987 through 2005 with three teams: Milwaukee Brewers, Baltimore Orioles (twice), and Atlanta Braves.
Surhoff was born in the Bronx, NY and grew up in Westchester. He went to college at North Carolina and was the 1985 Male Athlete of the Year and played on the first US Baseball Olympic team in 1984. His career batting average of .392 was a record for a Tarheel until Dustin Ackley broke it in 2009. The Brewers made him the first overall pick in 1985.
He had a solid career but only made the All-Star team once in 1999 while with the Orioles. That was probably is best season as he put up career high almost across the board. He played in all 162 games and hit .308 with 28 home runs and 107 RBI (those last two career highs).
The Score on B.J. Surhoff – 5.5
B.J. has a a nice signature but I really wish the Baltimore card came out better. It’s just so black. I really like his “S” and it kind of reminds me of the way Mike Smithson does his. Maybe it has a little less style than that though. I’ll definitely send to B.J. again in the future. I know I have some card his signature will come out better on.
Thanks Mr. Surhoff! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
