The Story of the Autograph

Archie Manning is a former quarterback in the National Football League. He played from 1971 to 1984 with the New Orleans Saints, Houston Oilers, and Minnesota Vikings.

Manning is a native of Mississippi. He played multiple sports as a kid like many did in those days. He was selected in the MLB Draft four times so he was good at some of those other sports as well. But he went on to attend Ole Miss and famously play for the Rebels. During his time there he would be First-team SEC, First-team All-American, and the SEC Player of the Year all in 1969. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame 20 years later.

The Saints picked Manning with the second overall pick in the first round of the 1971 NFL Draft. Unfortunately he played for several terrible teams in New Orleans. In the ten seasons he played for the Saints (he was injured all of the 1976 season), he only helped the team to a .500 record once. All other years were losing season. He still made two Pro Bowls in consecutive years (1978 and 1979), the teams years with their best records in those days.

These days he’s probably more famous for just being a dad and granddad. He’s the patriach of the Manning family: Dad to Connor, Peyton, Eli; grandfather to Arch. All star quarterbacks, except for Connor. He still lives in New Orleans.

These aren’t the greatest cards to get signed, but it’s really all I had to send Archie. The 1975 Topps card I am pretty sure I even found at a card show in a dime box. They just don’t show off the autograph very well. I’ve been trying to find some other options for another attempt but no luck.

Thanks Mr. Manning! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
