The Story of the Autograph

Vic Harris is a former utility player in the major leagues. He played for five teams during his eight year career in the majors. From 1972 to 1980 he played for the Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, and Milwaukee Brewers.

Harris is a native of Los Angeles, California. He was first drafted by the Mets in the 25th round of the 1969 MLB Draft but didn’t sign. The next year the Oakland Athletics drafted him with the ninth overall pick in the first round of the 1970 MLB Draft out of Los Angeles Valley College. Before making his major league debut he was traded to the the Rangers in July of 1972. He made his major league debut shortly after that on July 21, 1972.

In 1973 the Rangers moved him with Bill Madlock to the Cubs in exchange for Fergie Jenkins. The Cubs traded him to the Cardinals in 1975 and they later dealt him with others to the Giants in 1976 in a deal for Mike Caldwell, John D’Acquisto and Dave Rader. He moved around a lot between teams, but also in the field. He played everywhere except for catcher, pitcher and first base during his career.

His best season, and the one where he got a real chance to play was his second year in the league with the Rangers. In 1973 he played 152 games and hit .249 with eight homers, 44 RBI and 13 stolen bases.

The Score on Vic Harris – 6.0

Vic has a pretty cool signature. I like the loop he adds to his “H”. Unfortunately there was a little bubbling on some of the cards because the cards didn’t take the ink very well. But since I sent doubles of each there was a good chance that at least one of each would come out well.

Thanks Mr. Harris! I’m giving this return a 6.
