The Story of the Autograph
Jeff Calhoun is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1984 to 1988 with the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies.
Calhoun was born in Georgia and grew up in Mississippi. He was first drafted out of high school by the California Angels in the 28th round of the 1976 MLB Draft. But he didn’t sign and decided to go to college first. He went on to attend Ole Miss and was then drafted by the Astros in the third round of the 1980 MLB Draft. He would end up making his major league debut on September 2, 1984.
He would spend three years in Houston including 1986 when they went to the NLCS and lost to the Mets. In that game he had two wild pitches and they would eventually lose the game. His best year in Houston was 1985 when he went 2-5 in 44 games with a 2.54 ERA and four saves. He would move on to Philadelphia via traded and play two years there. His best year there was his first in 1987 when he went 3-1 with a 1.48 ERA in 42 appearances.
The Score on Jeff Calhoun – 6.5
Jeff has a sort of bubbly or loopy signature. It almost looks as if he makes the bottom of the “J” look like the start of his “C” but as you look a little closer you can see they are two separate letters. But that goes along with that stacked signature. I think I like the 1988 Fleer card the best because the black doesn’t have to fight with the dark blue uniform on those other cards.
Thanks Mr. Calhoun! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
