The Story of the Autograph

Willie Fraser was a pitcher in the major leagues from 1986 through 1995. He started his career as a right-handed starting pitcher for his first two seasons and moved to the bullpen for the rest of his career. He primarily played for the California Angels but also played with the Toronto Blue Jays, St. Louis Cardinals, Florida Marlins and Montreal Expos.

Fraser was drafted out of Concordia College (NY) as a first round draft pick. He was drafted by the Angels with the 15th overall pick in 1985. He debuted for the Angels on September 19, 1986 for his only start that year. The next two years he worked as primarily a starter for the Angels. In 1987 he went 10-10 with a 3.92 ERA and in 1988 he went 12-13 with a 5.41 ERA. In 1989 and 1990 he pitched out of the bullpen and dropped his ERA down into the 3+ range.

After the 1990 season Fraser was traded to the Blue Jays with Marcus Moore and Devon White (Junior Felix, Luis Sojo and a player to be named later came back to the Angels). After 13 appearances he was waived by the Jays and the Cardinals picked him up to finish out the season. He didn’t make an appearance in the majors again until 1994 with the Marlins and he finished out his major league career with the Expos in 1995. From there he moved on to play in Japan.

The Score on Willie Fraser – 6.0

Willie has a pretty good signature but two of these cards are a bit dark to show it off. That said, the 1991 Upper Deck I think is the best of the lot. You can see that Willie puts a lot more effort into his first name than his last. He seems to only sign the “F” in his last name.

Thanks Mr. Fraser! I’m giving these a 6.
