The Story of the Autograph

Wayne Chrebet is a former wide receiver in the NFL. He played from 1995 to 2005 and spent his entire career with the New York Jets.

Chrebet was born and raised in Garfield, New Jersey. He went to Long Island for college and attended Hofstra. He put up some amazing numbers but one of the best was a record five receiving touchdowns in one game, matching a mark set by Jerry Rice. But no matter what numbers he put up, he was a small receiver from a small school and the NFL doesn’t think much of some little guys. But the Jets trained at Hofstra and he got an opportunity to make the team and he did, becoming the first Hofstra alumnus to make a team in 30 years.

Chrebet put up some amazing numbers and had some amazing games. But one of the best parts of his career was playing on the same team as Keyshawn Johnson. Now that might not have been the best for either of them, but as a football fan watching it, the dichotomy of the brash, D-I star and the small, small school guy was definitely interesting.

Unfortunately he dealt with concussions toward the end of his career and would retire on June 2, 2006. He ended with the second most catches and the fifth most yards in franchise history.

The Score on Wayne Chrebet – 5.5

There isn’t too much to Wayne’s signature. I really wanted to get him to signed a card though and I’d been scrounging through things for a while to find something for him to sign. I just didn’t really collect in that area so I kind of had to wait around until I got a card in a larger haul I got from someplace.

Thanks Mr. Chrebet! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
