The Story of the Autograph
Warren Morris is a former second baseman in the major leagues. He played from 1999 to 2003 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Minnesota Twins, and Detroit Tigers.
Morris is a native of Louisiana where he also played basketball and ran cross country in high school. He then went on to LSU to play for the Tigers. He didn’t receive an athletic scholarship but made the team while on an academic one. He was hurt during the 1996 season but made it back for the College World Series, just in time to be the hero. In the final game he hit a walk-off homer, his only homer of the year and the only walk-off in College World Series history.
The Rangers drafted him in the fifth round of the 1996 MLB Draft. He wouldn’t make it to the Rangers big club though before being traded to the Pirates with Todd Van Poppel for Esteban Loaiza. He made his major league debut on April 5, 1999. His first season was his best as he hit .288 with 15 homers and 73 RBI, all career highs. That earned him a third place finish in the Rookie of the Year voting.
His production went down and the Bucs released him in 2002. He tried to make it several places but only appeared for the Twins and Tigers before becoming a minor league journeyman player for the rest of his career. He called it a career in 2006.

This is an era of cards that is a big hole for me. I think I picked most of these up a while ago when my friend/neighbor Sean (@seanssportscards) had them in packs at his yard sale. These came out really well, but my favorite is that old school looking ’00 Fleer card.
