The Story of the Autograph

Vic Correll is a former catcher in the major leagues. He played from 1972 to 1980 with the Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds.

Correll was drafted out of Georgia Southern University by the Cleveland Indians. He was taken in the 9th round of the 1967 MLB Draft. He spent a few years in the Indians minor league system and was released in April of 1971. From there he was signed by the Chicago White Sox, but they didn’t have him for even a year before he changed the color of his Sox. The Red Sox drafted him in the 1971 Minor League draft. He made his major league debut for the Red Sox on October 4, 1972.

His major league debut was the only appearance he made for the Red Sox. They traded him to the Atlanta Braves in March of 1974. He spent his career mostly as a backup. In Atlanta that meant he played behind Johnny Oates for a few years, then he became the starter. After Atlanta he moved on to Cincinnat where he backed up Johnny Bench.

His best overall season was probably 1975 where he played in 105 games. Of course with getting more chances (375 plate appearances) he was able to produce a little more. He only hit .215 but he hit 11 homers and 39 RBI that season.

Unfortunately for Vic and this score, I didn’t have great cards to show off a signature very well. I honestly don’t know what other cards Vic has, but I don’t seem to have them. I think his signature would come out really good on a better card. He used a good marker and it seems to be a pretty good size.

Thanks Mr. Correll! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
