Have you had the feeling that time has no meaning anymore? It’s kind of been feeling that way during these quaran-times. I don’t ever leave the office because my home is my office, I don’t ever go anyplace because there no place to go, you all know the drill because your in the same boat.
Tom from The Angels, In Order asked me about a testimonial card I’d gotten at one point in the last few months that I had posted. If you aren’t familiar with those they are custom cards with bible verses and information about the player’s faith on the back. He’s got a pretty cool collection of a certain type of them. There are many different styles, but he’s interested in the colored border variety. Here’s his post about the trade and those cards.
I actually had a few that he didn’t have that I was willing to part with. Of course when asked what I’d like to get back the answer was, “Mets!” There were some things listed on his site that he didn’t have anymore so I asked him to surprise me.
Well, my darn emails got all mixed up because my band email and my blog email were mixed up in it and we lost track of each other along the way. I think we both just got busy and got lost in other things. Then he found a pile of cards that he put together with my name on it and found my email again and asked if I remembered. I sure did! So we got things going and got some cards to each other.
The Have Nots
These first cards are not only cards I don’t have, but also players I don’t have signatures of. John Franco is a must have. I mean a Mets pitcher, from New York, AND he went to St. John’s. My uncle went to St. John’s so that made Franco a star in my book because of that connection alone. Doesn’t hurt that this signature stands out well on the card.
Bill Pecota isn’t a guy I think of as a Met, but a guy in a Mets uniform that I don’t have is a guy I need and want.
The Sort Of Haves
This next group of cards are all guys that I have autographs of, but I definitely don’t have these cards. I actually received up some Pena’s recently in a TTM but luckily not this card.
Dyar Miller and Ron Hodges are awesome because I particularly like the ’81 and ’82 Topps cards signed.
I actually have some Ron Washington signatures that I got when he was coaching the Rangers. But I didn’t know that he was a coach for the Tides. I picked up some of these Impel/Line Drive boxes the other day but I don’t think I got this card. I’m considering trying to get Bob Apodaca to sign it.
The Haves
This Barry Lyons is a card I already had. But amazing, Tom did a great job finding things that I didn’t have already. I didn’t tell him what I wanted other than Mets. I love the surprise!
Some Extras
Tom threw in these signatures on index cards. I actually like this idea with the players name and things like that. It’s an easy way to make a custom card. I love the Joey Amalfitano signature from a style perspective. You can probably see that Tom mentioned the Leroy Stanton is probably a stamp and I agree with him.
Good Trade
Thanks to Tom for the trade and dealing with my not keeping up with things! If anyone has more of those testimonial cards definitely consider Tom as a trade partner.
