The Story of the Autograph

Tracy Murray is a former forward in the NBA. He played from 1992 to 2003 with the Portland Trail Blazers (twice), Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors (twice), Washington Bullets/Wizards, Denver Nuggets, and Los Angeles Lakers. He also played overseas in Greece and France.

Murray is a native of Los Angeles, California. He was great in high school, leading the nation with a 44.3 points per game scoring average as a senior and earned McDonald’s All-American honors. He went to school at UCLA  where he made the All Pac-10 Conference team twice. He ended his Bruins career as a junior and declared for the NBA Draft. That’s when the Spurs took him in the first round of the 1992 draft with the 18th overall pick.

He wouldn’t make it to the NBA with the team that drafted him though. He was traded twice before finding the first team he would play for. Seven days after the draft the Spurs sent him to the Bucks for Dale Ellis. Then he was dealt to Portland for Alaa Abelnaby. While he wasn’t really a starter much for his career, he played well at times. In his second season he lead the league in three point percentage at 45%. Then in 1994-95 he was dealt to the Rockets with Clyde Drexler for Otis Thorpe, the rights to another player and a draft pick.

He mostly bounced around in his career. Other than three straight years with the Bullets/Wizards, his first years in Portland, and a couple in Toronto, he never really spent more than two consecutive years anywhere. After his playing days he coached in the NBA developmental league and in the WNBA. In more recent years he coached on the Lakers staff.

The Score on Tracy Murray – 7.0

It looks like Tracy focuses mostly on his first name. He certainly puts most of his ink into that. I thought I had more cards of his but maybe they were ducking in my doubles piles. I’ll have to look for some more to send him. I do like that I had a rookie card for him.

Thanks Mr. Murray! I’m giving this return a 7.
