The Story of the Autograph

Tommy Greene is a former right-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1989 through 1997 for the Braves, Phillies and Astros.

Green was born and raised in North Carolina where he won a baseball state championship in high school. He was pretty amazing in his high school days and threw nine total no-hitters. The Braves drafted him in the first round of the 1985 MLB Draft out of high school. He made his major league debut four years later on September 10, 1989.

In his second year with the Braves he was traded to the Phillies as a player to be named later from a deal six days earlier that sent Dale Murphy to Philadelphia. This was where he would eventually find his place. In 1991 he got his first good shot and put up a 13-7 record with a 3.38 ERA in 27 starts and 36 appearances. Included in that record was a no-hitter pitched on May 23rd.

But it was two years later when everything came together for Greene and the Phillies. In 1993 he went 16-4 with a 3.42 ERA in 30 starts and 200 innings. He helped the Phillies reach the World Series where they would eventually lose to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Unfortunately he always seemed to have arm problems that held him down outside of 1991 and 1993. After his time with the Phillies he tried to make it with the Astros. He wasn’t in the majors for 1996 and then only pitched in two games in 1997 with a 7.00 ERA.

Tommy really knows how to Phill up a card (HA! Get it? Phill). He always has a nice big signature and these look really great. There’s one that is a bit two dark with that Atlanta uniform but the Phillies cards came out tremendous.

Thanks Mr. Greene! I’m giving this return a 7.
