The Story of the Autograph

Tom Paciorek is a former outfielder and first baseman in the major leagues. He played from 1970 to 1987 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, Seattle Seahawks, Chicago White Sox, New York Mets, and Texas Rangers.

Paciorek is a native of Michigan. He grew up in the Detroit area and went on to attend the University of Houston where he played baseball and football. Houston was runner-up to Arizona State in the 1967 College World Series during his time there and he earned All-Tournament honors. He was good enough in football to be drafted by the Dolphins as a defensive back in the ninth round of the 1968 NFL/AFL Draft.

The Dodgers also selected him in 1968 in the fifth round of the 1968 MLB Draft. He chose to play baseball. He had a pretty good run through the minors that included being named The Sporting News Minor League Player of the year in 1972. But he made his major league debut on September 12, 1970 and bounced up and down with the Dodgers those first few years.

His playing time increased in 1973 but after his average dipped below .200 in 1975 he was traded to the Braves in a deal to get Dusty Baker. He played well to start but dipped again and the Braves released him. He then signed with the Mariners, again in a platoon situation, and played well. That included his career year of 1981 when he hit .326 with 14 homers and 66 RBI. That earned him is one and only All-Star Game bid.

He moved on to Chicago where he continued to play well for the White Sox. That included their run to the 1983 ALCS where they lost to the Orioles. He was later traded to the Mets and then closed out his career with the Rangers, playing his final game on October 4, 1987.

After baseball he worked as a broadcaster for several team. He’s a member of the College Baseball Hall of Fame.

This is a real solid signature from Tom. The marker he used stands out on almost all of these. He takes up a really good about of space on these too. The style kind of reminds me of the Tim Hortons word mark.

Thanks Mr. Paciorek! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
