The Story of the Autograph

Tom Barrett is a former second baseman in the major leagues. He played from 1988 to 1992 with the Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox.

Barrett was born and raised in California. He attended Mesa Community College in Arizona and then went to play baseball for the Wildcats of the University of Arizona. The Yankees drafted him in the 26th round of the 1982 MLB Draft. He would never appear in the majors for them though. In 1986 they traded him along with Mike Easler to the Phillies for Charles Hudson and a minor leaguer.

He made his major league debut for the Phillies on July 2, 1988. He would appear in 50 games for them over the next two seasons, hitting just .210 with four RBI. After being mostly in the minors he then moved on to the Red Sox as a free agent. He would appear in four games for the Red Sox and played his final game on August 16, 1992. He later went on to manage in the Red Sox farm system.

He is the younger brother of Marty Barrett.

I was kind of surprised when I found this many cards in my collection for Tom. I kind of knew that I had a bunch of 1989 Topps cards, but the others sort of surprised me when I found them. I have to try him again some time to upgrade that 1991 Line Drive card though.

Thanks Mr. Barrett! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
