The Story of the Autograph

Todd Hundley is a former catcher in the major leagues. He played fourteen seasons from 1990 to 2003 most notably with the New York Mets. He also played for the Dodgers and Cubs.

Hundley was born in Virginia but grew up in Illinois. The Mets drafted him out of high school in the second round of the 1987 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut three years later on May 18, 1990 at the age of 20. He became the starter in 1992 but battled some inconsistencies and injuries through the first few years of his career.

In 1996 he broke out with the first of two consecutive All-Star seasons. That year he played in 153 games hitting .259 with 41 homers and 112 RBIs for the greatest season of his career. His 41 home runs broke the record for catchers in a season and was also a single season home run record for the Mets at the time. He followed that up with another great season in 1997.

He left the Mets in 1998 in a trade to the Dodgers. The Mets had acquired Mike Piazza and Hundley had a career-threatening elbow injury he was dealing with. He attempted to come back as an outfielder but ultimately moved on. He finished out his career by going to the Cubs and then back to the Dodgers before finishing his career.

The Score on Todd Hundley – 6.0

Todd has a good amount of style to his signature. I think the marker on these is just a bit on the old side and a couple of these are a bit dark to really show off his signature. I think if I found some better cards, like the Leaf card, it would look great.

Thanks Mr. Hundley! I’m giving this return a 6.
