The Story of the Autograph

Steve Trout pitched in the major leagues from 1978 through 1989 with the White Sox, Cubs, Yankees, and Mariners. Most of his years in the league were spent in Chicago. He was a left-handed starter and the son of Dizzy Trout.

Trout was born in Detroit, MI but raised in Illinois and attended high school there. The White Sox drafted him in the first round of the 1976 MLB Draft and he played three years in the minors before debuting in July of 1978. His best season with the Sox was probably 1979 when he went 11-8 with a 3.89 ERA in 155 innings.

He was traded to the Cubs prior to the 1983 season. In 1984 he was part of the rotation that helped the Cubs make the playoffs for the first time in 39 years as he went 13-7 with a 3.41 ERA. in 190 innings pitched. He won his opening day start against the Mets with a two-hitter and took a no-hitter into the eighth form some highlights that year. But probably the best highlight was winning Game 2 in the playoffs against the Padres. He was having a great year the next year and started 6-1 until ulnar near problems put him on the disabled list.

The Cubs traded him to the Yankees in 1987. Unfortunately after being a great control pitcher for the Cubs, he fell apart for the Yanks with 37 walks and 9 wild pitches in just 46 innings. The Yankees traded him to the Mariners were he finished out his career.

The Score on Steve Trout – 5.0

Steve signed one out of two for me and then put in a note to visit his website. He’s got a pretty standard signature, but it’s a little small for my taste. That’s why I rated it right down the middle. He used a nice marker and it came out pretty clean on the card though.

Thanks Mr. Trout! This one gets a 5.
