The Story of the Autograph

Steve Kiefer is a former third baseman in the major leagues. He played from 1984 to 1989 with the Oakland Athletics, Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees.

Kiefer was born in Chicago, Illinois. He later went to college at Fullerton College and from there was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the 1981 MLB Draft with the 16th overall pick. He made his major league debut on September 3, 1984. He played 63 games over the next two season with the Athletics and never hit more than .197. The A’s traded him in March of 1986 to Brewers with two minor leaguers and Charlie O’Brien for Moose Haas.

He spent three seasons in the Brewers organization but only played in a handful of games outside of the 28 he appeared in for the 1987 season. In those games he hit .202 with five homers and 17 RBI. He moved on to the Yankees in 1989 and played in his last major league game on August 22, 1989.

The Score on Steve Kiefer – 6.5

Steve has a somewhat standard signature. You can see that he lets the pen skip a bit at time, particularly on the “S”. I think the best of these are the 1988 Topps cards. But the signature and marker he used are really strong on all of these.

Thanks Mr. Kiefer! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
