The Story of the Autograph

Steve Decker is a former major league catcher. He played for seven seasons in the majors from 1990 to 1999. During that time he played for the San Francisco Giants (twice), Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies, and Anaheim Angels.

Decker was born and raised in Rock Island, Illinois. After high school he went on to attend Lewis-Clark State College in Idaho. From there he was drafted by the Giants in the 21st round of the 1988 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut for them on September 18, 1990.

I guess you could say he was lightly used during his career. He spent a lot of it going up and down to the minors. The most games he played in a season was the 79 he appeared in with the Giants in 1991. Other than that he saw two other years where he appeared in more than 50 games with any one team. For his career he hit .221 with thirteen homers and 72 RBI.

He began coaching in the minors in 2001 with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes and then later managed that team and others for the next decade or so. The highest he ever made it in coach was as an assistant hitting coach in the majors for the Giants.

I got a bunch of Steve’s cards in a pick up I had a while ago where I hit on some years and sets of cards that I didn’t have much of. There are so many guys out there that I have an idea to send to but I just don’t have the cards to sent. Steve’s signature has a lot of action to it. A lot of these are pretty busy to see it well but I think I like the O-Pee-Chee Premier card the best out of these.

Thanks Mr. Decker! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
