The Story of the Autograph

Steve Comer is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1978 to 1984 and spent time with the Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Cleveland Indians.

Comer is a native of Minnesota. He went to high school there and stayed in-state to attend college at the University of Minnesota. The Rangers signed him as an amateur free agent on June 10, 1976 and he made his debut for them two years later on April 15, 1978.

His first year was great with a 11-5 record and a 2.30 ERA, but 1979 was definitely the best of his career. In 36 starts that year he put up a 17-12 record and a 3.68 ERA. After than season he started going backwards a bit and then was put in the bullpen. He moved around as a free agent a bit after that but only made appearances with the Phillies and the Indians.

I really like the way Steve’s “C” looks. It’s sort of bubbly compared to everything else. But one think about these cards is that he used a great marker on these. My favorites of this lot are the 1983 Fleer and Topps cards.

Thanks Mr. Comer! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.
