The Story of the Autograph
Shane Conlan was a linebacker in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams from 1987 through 1995. He’s best remembered as a Buffalo Bill and was an all-time great with them after an amazing college career.
Conlan grew up in Western New York and was great as a high school player. He was voted Player of the Year in NY in 1981 after is senior season. He went on to play at Penn State and after sitting out his freshman year (1982), he went on to play in the National Championship two years in a row in 1985 and 1986. In ’86 he helped the Nittany Lions to a National Championship and undefeated season by snagging two interceptions against Miami in the Fiesta Bowl with one of them setting up the game-winning touchdown. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
The Buffalo Bills drafted him with the eighth overall pick in 1987. After playing in 12 games in that rookie season with one forced fumble a half a sack and 114 tackles he was voted the Defensive Rookie of the Year. He made the Pro Bowl in three consecutive years from 1988 through 1990, the last of those being the start of the run of Super Bowl appearances for the Bills.
He’d move on to the Los Angeles Rams in 1993 and finish his career with them as they moved to St. Louis.
The Score on Shane Conlan – 6.0
Shane has a really nice flowing signature and includes his number below it. Given how the ’91 Pacific and Pro Set Platinum cards came out, it looks like Shane takes time with them. I say that because a lot of times with those cards if you don’t let that marker dry it will smudge and rub while in the envelope. He must take the time to let those dry.
