The Story of the Autograph

Scott Ruffcorn is a former pitcher in the major leagues. The right-handed played sparingly over five seasons for the Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies from 1993 to 1997.

Ruffcorn is a native of Texas. He went to high school in Austin, Texas and was first drafted from there by the Atlanta Braves in the 39th round of the 1988 MLB Draft. He never signed and went on to attend Baylor University. From there he was drafted in the first round with the 25th overall pick by the White Sox in 1991. He made his major league debut for Chicago two years later on June 19, 1993.

Unfortunately Ruffcorn was never really able to stick in the majors. In four years of getting some spot work for the White Sox he went 0-5 with a 9.68 ERA. In January of 1997 the Phillies purchased his contract and would appear in 18 games (more than he ever did in four years with the White Sox) with four starts. It wasn’t much better though as he went 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA. He played his last major league game on August 17, 1997 having never won a game.

After his playing days he coached at a high school in Austin.

The Score on Scott Ruffcorn – 6.5

Scott has a pretty sweet signature. It’s got some action to it, but it’s still pretty organized. Unfortunately the White Sox uniforms don’t help him all that much. The best of these cards is definitely the 1993 Fleer card because he has a white uniform on that shows off the autograph.

Thanks Mr. Ruffcorn! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
