The Story of the Autograph
Sammie Smith is a former running back who played in the NFL from 1989 through 1992. He spent the first three years of his career with the Miami Dolphins and the final year of his career with the Denver Broncos.
Smith was born and raised in Florida and played college football at Florida State. The Dolphins drafted him in 1989 with the 9th overall pick of the draft. In his rookie year he went on to put up over 650 yards on the ground with six touchdowns. That was actually good enough to be the Dolphins leading rusher for the 1989-90 season.
He would lead the team again the next season and improve on his totals. He rushed for 831 yards and eight touchdowns (career highs) and threw in more career highs receiving with 134 yards and one touchdown. But injuries would limit his career from there. He spent one more shortened year in Miami and then a little bit of time in Denver before his career ending.
After life in the NFL Smith found a bunch of trouble. He had a seven year sentance dealing cocaine in 1996.

I love these cards. All of them are great action shots of Sammie. My favorite is the Skybox card. I just love the way they did the last name and then overlapped the player on the text. Plus Sammie’s autograph came out the best on that card.
