The Story of the Autograph

Ryan Spilborghs played in the majors with the Colorado Rockies from 2005 through 2011. He played in the outfield and these days works the broadcast booth in Denver for the Rockies.

Spilborghs was born and raised in southern California and played for UC Santa Barbara in college. The Rockies drafted him in the seventh round in 2002. After two-plus years in the Rockies system he made his debut on July 16, 2005 against the Cincinnati Reds and picked up his first career hit. Unfortunately that was the only game he played in that year, but he’d be back in 2006 to play 67 games.

In 2009 and 2010 Spilborghs got a lot more time and played over 130 games in each of those years. His best year was 2010 when he hit .279 with 10 homers and 39 RBI. He had other years with better averages and 11 homers was his career high, but 2010 was his most significant time in the majors. He became a free agent after 2011 and signed a minor league deal with the Indians but was never promoted to the majors. They in turn traded him to the Rangers. He didn’t make it back to the majors after that 2011 season.

It’s too bad about the marker on this one. It was totally done by the time Ryan got to my cards. Because of that this is not a very good score. I think it would have been an OK score if it was a good marker. It’s hard thought with the black jersey and the text on the other card.

Thanks Mr. Spilborghs! I’m giving these a 4.5.
