The Story of the Autograph
Rusty Meacham is a former right-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues. He played eight seasons from 1991 to 2001 with the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, Houston Astros, and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Meacham is a Florida native and went to Indian River Community College. He was drafted from there by the Detroit Tigers in the 33rd round of the 1987 MLB Draft. Four years later he made his debut for the Tigers on June 29, 1991. He wen 2-1 with a 5.20 ERA in 10 games with four starts that first season. After the season he was picked up by the Royals.
He would have his best season in 1992 with the Royals. He earned the most relief wins in the league that year and put up his best ERA by far. He went 10-4 in 64 games, all in relief, and put up a 2.74 ERA. He spent the next three years in Kansas City before they traded him to the Mariners for a minor leaguer.
From here Meacham moved around a lot. He was out of the majors from 1997 to 1999 until finding time in 2000 with the Astros and then in 2001 with the Rays. After his time in the majors he kept playing with independent minor league teams for a few more year and then went into coaching at the same level.
The Score on Rusty Meacham – 6.5
Rusty has an interesting signature, but it’s kind of hard to pick out that it’s his name. That doesn’t mean it’s not distinct, but I don’t think I would immediately say it’s his. I think my favorite of these is actually one that doesn’t show it off well. I really like having the cards signed that picture a player signing autographs. Kind of meta I guess. Some of these are smudged unfortunately.
Thanks Mr. Meacham! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
